LYNNE HUME was born in Yallourn in 1946 and raised in the Goulburn Valley. At school in the early 60`s she was told by a vocational guidance panel that she should not train as an artist because ‘art was a man`s realm.’ She became a nurse, married a dairy farmer, raised a family and in the late 80`s began dabbling with paint as a hobby. In 1990 the local community centre asked her to take an art class for primary school children. Eventually she was teaching secondary school children and adults as well.
By 1995 the hobby became more serious and she returned to tertiary study, achieving her Diploma of Visual Art in 1997 at the age of 51 and then going on to Latrobe University.
Lynne has had several successful solo exhibitions and
many duo and group exhibitions and has work in private collections here and in
5 overseas countries.
In the early 90`s Lynne was one of the founding members of a Kyabram Art and Craft gallery called Banksias and Bunyips. They traded successfully for 8 or more years.
Seeing a need for a contemporary art group in the Goulburn Valley Lynne established the Splinter Contemporary Artists in 1997. The group worked from her Kyabram studio for a while before establishing themselves in Shepparton. She has participated in all their exhibitions.
Lynne was contracted, by Regional Arts Victoria, as the millennium artist for Kyabram to artistically assist the local community to herald in the new millennium.
For five years she ran an art gallery to feature artists around the Murray/Goulburn Valley and now after trying all the mediums she is practising as a mixed media artist, working mainly with collage and enjoying the collecting of materials as much as the making.
Lynne won the competition to have her work used as the logo for the Shepparton Arts Festival in 2011.
Currently she runs mixed media/collage workshops and is enjoying making work for herself.
